MISSION
The mission of the Coos County Historical Society is to enhance the intellectual, creative and political life of the Coos region and environs, by facilitating awareness of its history.
We do this by
• Preserving and facilitating access to artifacts, images and information that illuminate that history, with special emphasis on maritime dependence.
• Providing community programs and activities that encourage widespread participation:
- reflect the diverse and changing populations of the region;
- employ a range of media;
- partner with other organizations.
• Developing school programs that complement curriculum objectives and foster development of critical thinking skills.
Please see other pages of this website for a description of research services, educational programs, quarterly newsletter, and bookstore.
ORGANIZATION
The Coos County Historical Society, founded in 1891 is a private, not-for-profit organization supported entirely by memberships, donations, admission fees, bookstore income, and grants. We are recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service; donations to the organization are tax-deductible.
We implement our mission through professional staff under the direction of a dedicated Board of Trustees, with the invaluable assistance of literally hundreds of volunteers. |
