    New Evening Museum Program, First Tuesday Talks sponsored by Al Peirce Company with additional support from The Mill Casino.


    Starting at 6:30 PM with additional evening hours at the museum from 6 - 8:30 PM. First Tuesday of the each month (9 months) February 7, March 7, April 4, May 2, June 6, NO JULY PROGRAM, Aug 1, Sept 5, Oct 3, Nov 7.

    February 7 Speaker: Catherine Walworth, The Language of Flowers: Telling the Object of Desire.

    The Coos History Museum announces a new lecture series entitled, First Tuesday Talks. Each presentation will take place at the museum in the Sprague Gallery. Talks will be from 6:30 – 7:30 PM; museum store and galleries will be open 6 - 8:30 PM.

    In honor of Valentine’s Day, the February 7 First Tuesday Talks speaker is Advanced Master Gardener and American Rose Society Consulting Rosarian, Catherine Walworth. Over the past 20 years Walworth has worked as a writer, in public television, and writing horticultural stories and a garden column for newspapers and magazines. She has even worked as a county fair flower judge. Eight years she found herself retired in Coos Bay.

    Valentine’s Day or any day is a great time to give your loved ones flowers. But do you know the significance of your floral choices? Victorian culture emphasized the meaning behind individual types of flowers and their colors and much of the significance is still used today. Are the flowers you give sending your intended message? Have a little fun and find out Tuesday February 7 at 6:30 PM.

    Saturday December 24th - Closed

    Sunday, December 25th - Closed

    Saturday, December 31st - 10am - 2pm 

    Sunday, January 1st - Closed


    Additionally there will be no Coos Bay Winter Market on Wednesday, December 28th and January 4th. The Market will resume its regular schedule January 11th.

    The Coos History Museum and board member Steve Greif were recently featured on a segment of Central Oregon Daily's Destination Oregon. Check out the video to learn about how our beautiful new building came to fruition and get a glimpse inside the exhibit hall.

    The Coos History Museum is not accepting any new collections items, including artifacts and photos, while we search for our new collections staff. If you have a donation, please inquire after January 1, 2017. 

    We are still accepting research requests, however results may take up to six months. 

    We can also process your photo purchase or reproduction request. Please contact us to obtain the request form.  

    Thank you for your patience and understanding as we go through this transition.

    Due to the generosity of an anonymous donor in support of ballot measure 6-153, the Coos History Museum will be free to all Coos County residents until election day, November 8th, 2016.

    The Coos County Commissioners, at the request of the eight history museums in Coos County, have placed a measure on the November 8, 2016 ballot that would create a County Historical Fund. Details about the proposed fund and how it would be implemented can be found here under the Right Now! page
