Portraits of the Past: Transforming Historical Black & White Photographs into Modern Illustrations with Josie Keating from Josie’s Art Lab

Wednesday, November 3rd from 6:00-8:00 PM. Paid in-person program at the CHM.

Join Josie Keating as she walks you through the process of transforming an historical Black & White photograph into a modern, stylized illustration. Participants will work from several photos (either from your own personal stash/phone or choose several from the museum’s offerings). Josie will be giving detailed demonstrations for each step: from tips on sketching to working in choosing media/color palette to finishing your piece with design elements. This class is less about perfectly copying the photograph in a realistic way, and more focused on using a photograph to inspire art.

All art supplies will be provided: paper, pencils, pens, markers, watercolor, colored pencils and photos from the museum. Participants aren’t required to bring anything but should feel free to bring their own photographs or any other supplies they want.
