Historic Preservation at Battle Rock by Kassandra Rippee – Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO)
Battle Rock in Port Orford is a popular tourist attraction, offering a short hike across a sea-stack with breathtaking ocean views. Also known as Mah-Nah-Xhey-sah, Battle Rock is a place of cultural significance for the Indigenous People of the area as well as a place that carries a piece of America’s bloody history. This presentation highlights a project in which the Coquille Tribe and the public can join together as stewards and protectors of this important place.
