First Tuesday Talk- The Rise and Fall (and Rise) of the Umpqua Lighthouse

The May 2nd First Tuesday Talk will take place from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM in person at the museum in the Sprague Gallery. Seating is limited to 75 participants. Doors to the museum will open at 5:30 PM.

Join us at the Coos History Museum as our speaker sheds light on the story of the first and last lighthouse built on the Oregon coast.

*Advanced Registration is offered in person at the museum but walk-ins are welcome on the evening of the program. Please register and pay in advance to avoid the lines on the night of the program.

Richard Whitwer, local lighthouse expert, and CHM research team member is presenting “The Rise and Fall (and Rise) of the Umpqua Lighthouse”. Join us at the Coos History Museum as our speaker sheds light on the story of the first and last lighthouse built on the Oregon coast.

After a forty-plus-year career as a social work administrator, Richard Whitwer started volunteering at the Coos History Museum. He started at the front desk and then added volunteering for exhibits and answering community research requests. He has also contributed several articles to the Waterways Newsletter. Richard has had a decades-long fascination for all things lighthouse and is pleased to share his knowledge with others.
