Many folks think they have to have special talents to write their stories. They will say, “I’m not a
writer!” And, they believe it. Well, the truth is, if you can tell it, you can write it.

There’s no need to worry about spelling or grammar — those things can be fixed later. But, it’s the story, the discoveries you made, the fun you had, the lessons you learned, and the historic moments you witnessed that members of your family want to know about. They want to have a glimpse of you and your life.

Annis Cassells is a writer, teacher, poet, and life coach. She facilitates writing workshops for senior adults who
want to share their life stories as a gift and legacy for their families. Annis is a contributor in Chicken Soup for the
Soul: Inspiration for the Young at Heart and is currently participating with a writing group as she works on her
own memoir. Annis’ first poetry collection, You Can’t Have It All, was published in 2019. A second collection will be
released in 2023.
