Alison Hart is principal at A. Hart Associates. She brings to the table more than 30 years of experience leading and developing organizations. As a former CEO in the nonprofit and association industry, Alison has rich experience with facilitation, strategic planning, program development, leadership development, stakeholder engagement, and marketing. She has engaged in the nonprofit arena and with destination marketing organizations, businesses, alliances, and chambers of commerce for many years.

High-performing volunteer Boards are vital to the successful governance of a not-for-profit organization. Few people, though, receive trainingo n the roles and responsibilities of a Board. This can lead to frustration, lack of engagement, and burn-out. The most effective Boards operate at the strategic level, setting direction for their organization with full understanding of their fiduciary duties and corporate responsibilities. In this session, participants will learn:

  • The role differences between Boards, committees, and staff
  • A Board member’s fiduciary liabilities
  • Insight into the proper use of this most valuable asset – the volunteer Board member.
