The Coos History Museum partnered with the USCG and the USCG Sector North Bend to present a Veterans Gathering on Friday – May 18, 2018, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.  The Veterans Gathering event included a Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative Presentation, guest speakers, and light refreshments.  Over 100 people were in attendance to honor our veterans.

Veterans Gathering Schedule of Events:

  • Presentation of Colors, Pledge of Allegiance – Myrtle Point VFW Post #2928 Veterans Color Guard
  • Invocation/Moment of Silence – Chaplain Pastor Mike Barnard
  • Museum Welcome – Susan Tissot, Executive Director, Coos History Museum
  • Greetings and recognition of veterans and distinguished guests, Vietnam War Commemoration and Veteran’s Pin Presentation – Captain Michael Mullen, Sector Commander, U.S. Coast Guard Sector North Bend
  • Discussion about community service by active duty members – Thomas Hines, H BMC, U.S. Coast Guard Sector North Bend
  • Discussion about women in the military – Tiffany Duffy, LCDR
  • Discussion about the “I Am Not Invisible” Exhibit – Elizabeth Estabrooks, ODVA Women Veterans Coordinator
  • Closing remarks and Benediction – Chaplain Pastor Mike Barnard
  • Refreshments and viewing of the “I Am Not Invisible” Exhibit
