After years of unsuccessful attempts to consolidate the municipalities along the bay the residents of Marshfield voted to rename the city. On November 7, 1944, the people of Marshfield adopted a new charter and renamed the city Coos Bay. By the will of the people, Marshfield quietly entered the pages of history ceasing to exist as a municipality.
